Gary Player Course at Geneva National Incredible Addition to Midwest Golf
by: Dan Rusnak - 3/20/2002 7:37:44 AM
The Lake Geneva area has been able to boast of having some of the best golf in the Midwest for a long time and now, with the addition of Hawk's View Golf Club and the additional nine holes on the Player Course at Geneva National, the area has received two of the best courses you will find anywhere.

On a recent trip to Lake Lawn Resort in Delevan, I had the great opportunity to visit and play these two courses and was so incredibly delighted to see such great golf being added to this already rich golfing area.

This story is on The Gary Player Course at Geneva National.

Geneva National added its addition nine holes to the Gary Player Golf Course in June 2000 and now can boast that the best nine in the Midwest is now 18.

I have played all the courses at Geneva National now and I was very much impressed with the Player Course.

The Player Course wraps around one side of Lake Como and features rolling, wooded hills as well as open rolling areas.

Golfers play the course's original first three holes and then branch off to the new holes, picking up the original course at the current hole #4 (new hole #13), before returning to the Clubhouse.

I was able to play the course by myself early morning while the grounds crew we still working diligently. What a peaceful experience on what is now one of my favorite Midwest golf courses.

Geneva National can boast of having 54 holes of championship golf on some of the best Midwest terrain for golf. Along with Gary Player, Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino have had the privilege to sculpt the land at Geneva National. All three courses are excellent places to play, but the Player Course is my favorite.

Conditions are impeccable and the practice facilities and clubhouse are outstanding.

Geneva National is located just 4 miles west of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

The renowned Hunt Club restaurant, which was originally the historic summer estate of plumbing industrialist R.T. Crane, serves as the course's "halfway house." Golfers pass the restaurant on hole #6 and again on #10. The Hunt Club offers excellent cuisine with a great view of Lake Como in the distance as well as views of holes #6 and #10.

Legends Tavern offers guests a great spot for dinner or cocktails, overlooking the new Gary Player Golf Course and Lake Como.

The Hunt Club is also available for group luncheons, dinners, and social parties. Call (262)245-7200 for reservation and more information.

The Hunt Club is open for Dinner Wednesday-Saturday & serves Brunch on Sundays.

Sisolak was also an excellent player and coach in his own right. In 1980 and 1991 his Waukegan Township High School girls team won the state championship. On coaching challenges he says, “its funny, girls are really easier to teach than boys. The boys talk back to you.” Five years ago a Waukegan park was named in his honor for the efforts he has made over the years. But he isn’t stopping just yet. Every Friday morning during the summer he meets at the park with junior golfers who want his help, there is no charge.
