| HAWTHORN WOODS, Ill., July 16, 2007 - The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) announced that it will stage the 16th annual Midwest Junior Players Championship at Hawthorn Woods Country Club in Chicago's northern suburbs. The 54-hole, stroke-play event will kick off on Tuesday, July 24, at the newly opened Arnold Palmer Signature Course, with the winners being crowned on Thursday, July 26. The 99-person field will feature many of the nation's top junior boys and girls, ages 12-18. In 2006, Ravi Patel of Naperville, Ill., won the Boy's Division with a final-round, 1-under-par 71 at Twin Orchard Country Club, while Nathada Huachai of Bangkok, Thailand, ran away with the Girl's Division title.
The AJGA will launch the 2007 Midwest Junior Players Championship with a Junior-Am event slated for Monday, July 23. Local businesses and residents are invited to play with the participating junior golfers. Supporting golf at the grass-roots level, the Junior-Am allows the AJGA to make contributions to local junior golf charities and programs in hosting communities. In 2006, the proceeds of the AJGA Midwest Junior-Am benefited the Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) and the AJGA Foundation. Over the past decade, Junior-Am events have raised more than $1 million for junior programs in communities across the United States.
