Nettle Creek - Morris
by: Dan Rusnak - 4/17/2001 8:57:31 AM
Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris is in the heart of one of the fastest growing communities in the Chicagoland area.

Yes, I would definitely consider Morris part of the Chicagoland area, especially with all the building and growth in the area. Morris is located 40 minutes west of the I-80/I-294 split-off just off of I-80 from Highway 47 to Route 6 west.

Nettle Creek has been regarded since its opening in 1992 as one of the Chicagoland’s finest golf courses. It is an open links-style par 71 course that plays to 6,487 yards from the blue tees.

When you have a links-style course and the wind is blowing, look out. Myself and 11 playing partners learned how hard the wind can be to play in at Nettle Creek, but we all had to play in the same conditions. As far as course conditions, you will be hard-pressed to find a better conditioned course in the Chicagoland area.

Nettle Creek is built through a residential development by the same name, but you need not have to worry about having to hit off of someone’s lawn like at some residential golfing communities.

While the course is wide open, it does have some rolling terrain and definitely has water hazards. Water comes into play on eight holes and there are 36 bunkers.

The signature hole at Nettle Creek is the par four 400 yard 11th hole. #11 requires a well-placed tee shot short of water that runs the entire left side of the fairway until cutting across the fairway around 140 yards from the green. The water then meanders up to the front of the green on the right side.

The finishing hole at Nettle Creek is also rather interesting. It is a rare par three finishing hole. With a 542 yard par five prior to #18, the two final holes can change you game very quick as it did for me.

Nettle Creek became more of a complete golf facility in 1998 with the opening of its new clubhouse. The clubhouse back patio overlooks the ninth hole and the 18th green. The pro shop is fully stocked.

Nettle Creek has been a great addition to the Morris community and is a great course to travel to.

To contact Nettle Creek call (815)941-4300. If you plan on playing at Nettle Creek remember that they only allow soft spikes – NO METAL SPIKES.
