| There are many golf courses in the southwest suburbs. Many of them are quite new and many of them have a rich history. This review is about one of those mature courses that has been become one of the most well-played courses in the area.
Palos Country Club in Palos in Palos Park, which started in 1917, is among the oldest courses in the Chicagoland area. Palos, like many of the pre-1920’s courses, was started as a private course. Originally named Palos Hills Country Club, Palos went through numerous ownership changes until the O’Malley family, who owns the facility now, purchased the facility.
It is a 27-hole layout with a complete clubhouse for banquets and outings. The club entrance is off of 131st Street and Southwest Highway, which is the northeast corner of the facility. Palos is bordered by 131st Street to the north, Southwest Highway to the east, 135th Street to the south and LaGrange Road to the west.
The Red course, which runs around the exterior of the facility, is mainly used for nine hole play while the blue and white courses serve as the 18 hole course.
Palos is a very mature course with large trees and five water hazards that come into play on seven holes.
If you are looking for a great place to get in 18 holes, or if you can only play 9, or if you are planning a wedding, shower, or golf outing, Palos is the place for you. |
