Furyk Fends off Woods for Cialis Western Open Championship
by: Dan Rusnak - 7/4/2005 7:34:13 AM
Talk about pressure!

After finishing second three times already on the PGA TOUR this season, Jim Furyk had to hold off a late charge by none other than Tiger Woods Sunday at the Cialis Western Open at Cog Hill.

Furyk was able to handle the pressure, after Woods pulled even with Furyk on the 11th hole, finishing two-strokes ahead of Woods.

Woods knocked in a 53-foot putt for eagle on the par five 11th hole while Furyk was a spectator standing in the 11th hole fairway.

Furyk did not let the pressure get to him as he finished off a string of three birdies on 10, 11 and 12.

Woods finished with a 66, the best round of the day on Sunday.

Furyk had to overcome two bogeys on the second and third holes, which left Furyk four shots off the lead, held at the time by Ben Curtis, who started the final round tied with Furyk for the lead.

Although, Curtis had looked like he was playing the eight hole like many of the public golfers that play Dubsdread on a daily basis, he showed his abilities by chipping on to the green beautifully, leaving him a short putt for bogey.

Woods was showing his incredible game prior to his eagle on #11. Woods made a great putt on #9 for birdie and then proceeded to nearly drive the tenth hole – putting his drive in between to greenside bunkers in a patch of fairway no more than four –feet wide.

Bogeys on 13 and 14 putt the pressure back on Woods, as he dropped four-shots behind Furyk.
