| CHICAGO, Illinois (March 9, 2004) - Golf Magazine “Top 100 Teachers” Dr. Jim Suttie and Todd Sones will highlight a prime-time team of golf instructors set to lead game-improvement seminars at the upcoming 2004 Chicago Golf Show.
Suttie, Sones and seven of their counterparts - including Illinois PGA 2003 Teacher of the Year Lou Solarte - will be imparting their golf-specific wisdom the weekend of March 19-21 (Friday-Sunday) at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois, located on River Road south of Interstate 90. Both Suttie and Sones are former Illinois PGA Teachers of the Year.
“It is always exciting and energizing to get together and talk golf with the kind of dedicated Chicago golfers who attend the Chicago Golf Show,” said Suttie, who has taught such touring pros as Fred Funk, Steve Flesch and Loren Roberts. “Their questions and insights always are enthusiastic and interesting.” A frequent contributor to Golf Magazine and a regular on The Golf Channel, Suttie operates his own local golf school out of Green Gardens CC in south suburban Frankfort.
Suttie said former Ryder Cup team member and multiple PGA TOUR winner Chip Beck will join him at his session at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Sones has worked with tour pros Scott McCarron, David Duval, Steve Jones, Tommy Tolles, Jay Williamson, Robert Gamez and 2003 U.S. Women’s Open champion Hilary Lunke. He contributes instructional articles to Golf Magazine and frequently is seen in teaching segments on The Golf Channel.
“I’m thrilled to be able to come to the Chicago Golf Show and talk to golfers who might be looking for ideas on how to improve their games just as the golf season is getting under way,” said Sones, who runs Todd Sones Impact Golf school out of White Deer Run GC in north suburban Vernon Hills.
Long drive champion and ultimate golf showman Marty Joyce, a longtime crowd favorite at the Show, will be back again. This year, he is bringing along his 13-year-old daughter, Lisa Joyce, who recently won the Remax World Long Drive Championship for the Girls Division over more than 14,000 competitors, averaging 273 yards per drive in 2003.
Also gracing the Golf Academy Main Stage will be John Green, 2000 IPGA Teacher of the Year; Kurt Kollmeyer and Wayne Sciscio, IPGA pros with the GolfTEC instruction company; Stefan Carlsmith, a top instructor with the Dave Pelz Scoring Game School, and David Woods of Natural Golf.
Now in its 21st year, the Chicago Golf Show is the nation’s largest consumer golf show, annually attracting 15,000-20,000 avid golfers. Surveys show more than 80 percent of last year’s attendees surveyed were frequent golfers (eight to 25 rounds per year), with 64 percent saying they played 25 or more rounds annually.
Each year more than 300 exhibitors spread their products over 100,000 square feet. The show features the Impact Zone, where golfers can test the latest clubs; complimentary individual full-swing and putting lessons courtesy of Illinois PGA pros; the latest new golf products, contests, door prizes and hundreds of golf resorts, local courses and tournaments.
Admission to the show is $9 for anyone age 13 or older. Children 6-12 are $3 and children five and under are admitted free. Friday is Senior Citizens Day, when anyone age 65 or older will be admitted for $7. Show hours are 1-8 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. on Sunday.
This year the first annual Chicago Backyard Show will be co-located with the Chicago Golf Show on the same floor at the Stephens Convention Center.
The Chicago Golf Show and the Chicago Backyard Show are operated by Corcoran Expositions, a Chicago-based professional trade show management company that operates more than 40 trades shows annually across the country.
