| CHICAGO, IL - Billy Casper - the professional golf legend who won two U.S. Open and four Western Open tournaments - will make special personal appearances at Highland Woods (Hoffman Estates), Indian Boundary (Chicago) and Joe Louis "The Champ" (Riverdale) golf courses on Thursday, May 22.
Casper will conduct golf clinics and exhibitions at Highland Woods beginning at 9 a.m., Indian Boundary at noon, and Joe Louis "The Champ" at 3 p.m. The latter includes Casper speaking with children who participate in the "Hook A Kid on Golf" program" supported by the United States Golf Association. Casper will also be available to sign autographs and pose for photographs with Chicago-area golf fans.
The events are open to the public and free. For more information, call 708.444.0408.
In Chicago, Casper won the Western Open in 1965, 1966, 1969 and 1973.
His legendary achievements include 51 PGA Tour victories (sixth on the all-time win list), including a Masters (1970) and two U.S. Open titles (1959, 1966). Casper, 72, holds numerous Ryder Cup records and is a five-time Vardon Trophy winner for the lowest scoring average on the PGA Tour. He won nine times on the Senior PGA Tour and more than 35 tournaments internationally.
Casper is namesake of the Billy Casper Golf, the Vienna, Virginia-based company that on January 1, 2003 commenced management of Highland Woods, Indian Boundary, Joe Louis "The Champ," and seven other golf courses owned by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Illinois. They are Billy Caldwell (Chicago), Burnham Woods (Burnham), Chick Evans (Morton Grove), Edgebrook (Chicago), George W. Dunne (Oak Forest), Meadowlark (Hinsdale), and River Oaks (Calumet City).
"The enhancements our company has made to the courses' conditions and customer-service programs in a short period of time are incredible," says Casper, 72, who lives near San Diego. "And Chicagoland golfers deserve it. They've been nothing but good to me during my many decades playing the Western Open on the PGA Tour and then the Ameritech Senior Open on the Senior PGA Tour.
One of Billy Casper Golf's most popular programs at the Cook County courses is the new Forest Preserve Golf Card, formerly known as the Activity Card.
Cardholders receive greens-fee discounts every day of the week: $5 off 18-hole rounds; $1 to $5 off nine-hole rounds; $1 to $7 off twilight rounds. Seniors (age 62 and over) and juniors (17 and under) receive $12 to $26 savings on 18-hole rounds and $7 to $9 on nine-hole rounds. Cardholders also pay less for driving-range balls and twilight rates start one hour earlier for cardholders than the general public.
The card is on sale at all Cook County courses. The cost is $25 for Cook County residents and $30 for non-residents. All previous Activity Card holders must purchase and receive a new photo.
