| Former Northwestern University golfer Brian Payne led wire-to-wire in the Illinois Open at The Glen Club in Glenview to capture the event with a six-under par 207 three-day total.
Payne, who resides in Highland Park, finished with a one-under par 70 to secure the title.
For his efforts, the Canadian PGA TOUR player won $17,000. Scott Harrington, a current Northwestern player, was the top amateur in the event with his second place finish three shots behind Payne.
"It's an honor to come back to my home state every year and to play in (The Illinois Open)," said Payne as he accepted his check from the Illinois PGA. "It's a trophy I really wanted to get my name on and I am very pleased to have done it."
The Glen Club hosted the event for the first time and will be the permanent home of the event. The Illinois PGA offices as well as the Illinois PGA Hall of Fame are located in the clubhouse at The Glen Club.
"The Glen Club is a tremendous host facility and the people here have been incredible and the players here in Illinois are very lucky to have this course to come to," added Payne.
After a birdie on the first hole and 15 consecutive pars, Payne bogeyed the par 3 17th hole, which was difficult for all players on Wednesday. A long birdie putt on #18 sealed the victory for Payne.
